Mixed Reality

Mixed reality (MR) is a technology that combine elements of virtual reality(VR) and agmented reality(AR). It allows superposition of vitual objects in an interacting manner in real world, while maintaining a physical interaction and perception with the environment.

Mixed reality aims at creating an experience where vitual and real objects co-exists and interract in an harmonic manner. In contrast to augmented reality, where virtual objects are simply superposed on the real environment, mixed reality allows virtual object to interact with real objects.

Mixed reality offers key charateristics such as:

Interaction with real objects

Virtual objects of mixed reality can interact with real environment objects. For example, a virtual object can be placed on a real table and react to user's movements or to physical interactions.

Spacial Interaction

Virtual objects from mixed relaity are ancored in real environment, which mean they maintain their position and their orientation as compared to real objects, even when the user is in motion.

Real time interaction

Virtual objects of mixed reality act in real time with motion and user's action, allowing a fluid and natural interaction.

Immersive experience

Mixed reality creates an immersive experience while superposing virtual objects in a realistic manner in the user's real envieonment, which allows a present and interacting sensation with those objects.

Mixed reality is used in several domains, notably:

Design and architecture

It allows conceptors to visualise and manipulate 3D modeles in real space, thus easing planification and conception.

Education and Trainning

It offers interacting learning possibilities while permitting users to manipulate and explore virtual objects in a real environment.

Communication and collaboration

It allows distant users to share a virtual environment and collaborate in real time, while superposing virtual objects in their respective physical environment.

Gamming and Entertainment

It creates immersive gamming experinces while superposing characters and virtual objects in user's real enviroment.

Mixed reality offers a more advanced approach of the world's interaction between the real world and the virtual world, allowing users to live interactive experiences which combine the best of the two worlds.
